Capresso Glass Kettle Review

With everything we've read about how toxic black plastic can be, especially when boiling liquid, we got rid of our old black plastic kettle. Looking for a glass alternative, we found the Capresso H2O Glass Rapid-Boil Kettle. The only elements that come in contact with water are glass and stainless steel.

The Capresso glass kettle heats liquid incredibly fast. We usually never fill the kettle any more than halfway, but it usually is done boiling in 2 minutes or less. There is no heat control on this electric kettle. Just a single button to boil when pressed. A few drawbacks are that the lid is really tight and a little hard to open and close. Also, the opening at the top could be a little wider for our liking, but not a deal breaker.

After several weeks of using the kettle, we noticed mineral deposits started to form on the stainless steel dome inside. Rinsing won't get rid of these spots, so you'll need to descale the inside of the kettle. To descale, fill the kettle with 6 tablespoons of white vinegar and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Discard the solution and repeat if necessary, but usually just doing this once works for us. Then rinse the kettle once or twice with fresh cold water. Once it has cooled, we like to wipe it out with a paper towel. The stainless steel dome should look as good as new.

We've had the Capresso glass kettle for a little over 5 months and have no issues so far. The boiling water tastes better than our old plastic model and makes a great cup of tea every time.
