PetSafe ScoopFree Crystal Self Cleaning Litter Box

We wondered if anything existed to make cleaning our cat's litter box less of a chore. That brought us to the PetSafe Scoop Free Self Cleaning Litter Box. The PetSafe Self Cleaning Litter Box falls in line with our effort to find gadgets that make our lives easier. You literally place the disposable litter tray on the ground, dump the pack of litter in, and place the machine over the tray. The refill trays come in packs of 3 and 6 on amazon and will run cheaper than buying a normal bag of litter in the long run.

The refill trays are meant to be swapped around once a month If you have 1 cat and around every 2 weeks if have 2 or more cats. The machine keeps track of how many times they've gone to the bathroom so you can get an idea of not only their bowl movements, but when you need to swap a tray. You can set a timer up to 20 minutes after the cat has gone to the bathroom before the raking mechanism begins cleaning. It rakes all the feline waste into a box at the end of the tray. When the refill tray is full, you seal the lid that came with the tray and throw it away. We recommend taping the lid shut to avoid any unwanted spills on the way to the trash.

Our cat was initially afraid of the mechanical litter box and we tried to set her old litter box next to the PetSafe to give her an option to use both. We also tried removing the top and leaving it as a convertible. Ultimately, any time she saw the rake mechanism kick in, she would get scared and wouldn't use the litter box for awhile. Before she saw the PetSafe in action, she did use it routinely for a couple of months, but unfortunately it ended up scaring her to the point of avoiding it completely. So we went back to our original old school litter box and manual scooping. Either way, we still highly recommend the PetSafe Self Cleaning Litter Box to any cat owner that's looking to simplify their life, even though it didn't work out for us in the long run.
